Schools were used as local evacuation centers during the outbreak with police and military units protecting them. The battles for such places were blood baths for zombies and government personel alike. As more and more zombies entered the meat grinder, infected civilians inside turned into zombies and started to take attention away from the zombies outside. Eventually the police and military were overrun in many cases, such battles left very few survivors, most left at a slower pace than when they entered. However with so many supplies left behind they make great places for survivors to find everything from food to body armor.
