In a recent update, survivors from both parties can be attacked by surrounding zombies. This forces players to take into consideration the z-density of their area. Furthermore, Survivors can get lost in the heat of battle. A message will appear saying which survivors got lost and they are then considered dead, with a death location created. It is unclear whether the defending squad can "lose" survivors in this way. As of now, it is only known that the attacking squad can "lose" survivors.

Player Killing, PKing is non-consensual PvP (player versus player) resulting in a character's death. PKing is allowed starting from level 5. When attacking another squad, firearms will be used if you are 10 meters away. The attacking squad will attack, and the defending squad will return fire if they are within range of their own weapons. Due to the need to defend oneself, it is common that players keep firearms equipped with ammo at all time since inventory cannot be changed in the field, only at a location. If the two squads converge, they willl use melee weapons in addition to firearms. It is possible for someone to attack with a firearm and then switch to a melee weapon as shown by the report below.

Survivors can be injured or killed as a result of PvP, therefore players must consider their possible losses before attacking. Not only can survivors be killed, but items can be stolen. How often items are stolen all depends on the melee skills of the two parties. Death of a survivor leaves a death location on the map, making it easier to know when you've lost a suvivor.
