Revision as of 05:50, 16 April 2012

Refers to any items which can be used as melee weapons, even if they are improvised. Also known as melee weapons, or close range. Not to be confused with the long-ranged firearms.

Melee

An example of a survivor with a melee weapon.

Melee items are close-ranged weapons. They have their own pros and cons compared to firearms. While they are close-ranged, meaning more chance of getting hurt (especially versus other gun-totting players), they require no ammunition and are easier to obtain. Many melee weapons are everyday objects grabbed out of desperation.

"Maximum melee strength" represents the weapon's "power" when used by a survivor with 100% "Skull Crusher" skill. A survivor with 50% "Skull Crusher" skill will use the weapon at half its maximum melee strength, a survivor with 25% skill will use it at one quarter of its maximum melee strength, and so on.

As of the April 24, 2011 update melee weapons now have conditions as part of the Weapon Fatigue system, and will deteriorate with use, as a weapon deteriorates its maximum melee strength will reduce and the chance of a weapon reacting badly to use will increase.

As part of the Closed Beta rewards, players that participated were given items as prizes during Open Beta. Among them were indestructible weapons that do not deteriorate with use.
