Firearms are any of the various types of weapons that can be found in WotLD. Like melee weapons, firearms have their own weaknesses and advantages. The main advantage is that they are ranged, which means that using them is easier and represent less risk against the undead, and the range can be an advantage against the living. Their main disadvantage is that they need an specific type of ammunition to be used. Ammunition comes in different calibers, some more common than others, that can be found in places like Police Departments and Government Buildings. Firearms also require that the user has proficiency in the appropiate skill. Note. There are six firearm skills. Please make sure you invest points in the one relevant to the weapon you wish to use. Low skill levels will mean you waste more bullets every time you use them.
The six basic types of firearms in the game are Handguns, Shotguns, Rifles, Assault Rifles, Submachine Guns and Bows.
Several statistics make up each firearm, such as weapon condition, weight, maximum firepower, and ammunition type. These attributes vary greatly, even among guns of the same type; not all handguns, for example, are created equal.
"Maximum firepower" represents the firearm's "power" when used by a survivor with 100% skill in that weapon's use (the "Shootist," "Pump Master," "Deadeye" et cetera skills). A survivor with 50% skill will use the weapon at half its maximum firepower, a survivor with 25% skill will use it at one quarter of its maximum firepower, and so on.
Firearm Updates
As of the April 24, 2011 update firearms now have conditions as part of the Weapon Fatigue system, and will deteriorate with use, as a weapon deteriorates its maximum firepower will reduce and the chance of a weapon reacting badly to use will increase.
The June 14, 2011 update introduced Silenced and Suppressed weapons along with Bows.

Handguns
Handguns, also known as pistols, are the most basic firearms. They are small, lightweight and accurate but not very powerful or intimidating. They are also very common. The fire rate is higher than that of shotguns and rifles. The ammo is generally not very scarce, but there's a large variety of calibers. Handguns are the best choice for the physically weak (as minors) or lone traveling survivors, but the short range and low power make them poor choices for PvP encounters.

Shotguns
Shotguns. Shotties. Boomsticks. Arguably the best option for close-combat against the living and the undead alike. They are also some of the most common firearms found in the city. Shotguns enjoy the advantage of having only two different gauges of shells, both being common, so ammo will never be a problem with them. However, the ammo and the guns themselves are quite heavy. Their range is also a problem, as it's even lower than that of pistols, leaving them as an option only for close-combat. The availability and firepower of a shotgun makes them good choices for the self-defense of a squad.

Rifles
Rifles. The sniper's choice. Rifles are true long-ranged blessings. Long range, high firepower and a relatively low ammo consumption makes rifles some of the most reliable, useful tools. They are also the best choice for a PKer, as a single sniper can take an entire hostile squad down in a few seconds before they even realize what's going on. Melee and almost all other weapons are useless against a sniper with a good rifle using range as advantage. Unfortunately, not everything is as sweet as it sounds. Rifles are not particularly the most common firearms of the game, and neither is their ammo. You won't want to use them unless it's really necessary. They are also very heavy. That makes rifles a poor choice for defense of the squad, but the best choice in offensive tasks.

Assault Rifles
Assault rifles, are someway between submachine guns and rifles. They possess a high power, a decent range and a high fire rate. They are not weapons to be underestimated. Assault rifles are quite common, and so is their ammo, and their high firepower makes them efficient killing machines. They possess automatic-fire capabilities, making them able to spray dozens of rounds in a few seconds. That is the assault rifle's Achilles' heel. The high fire rate will consume the ammo supply very quickly. Although they can contain themselves in areas of low Z-Density, survivors are usually happy-triggers, and if you let them unsupervised their weapons will be rendered useless quickly if the supply of ammo is not high. The large quantity of gunfire can attract zombies rather quickly, and it can cause quick deterioration to the gun if not handled properly. The guns are also quite heavy.
Against hostile survivors, Assault Rifles can be a very good option. Their range is slightly lower than that of rifles, but the firepower and fire rate will be of use for quick kills, as long as the supply of ammunition allows it.

Submachine Guns
Submachine guns are automatic weapons. Generally smaller and lighter than an Assault Rifle but bigger and heavier than a pistol. They use the same caliber rounds as handguns. They have a decent firepower, a high fire rate and are not very common. They can also deteriorate quickly thanks to their fire rate, and they can consume the supply of handgun ammo very quickly. Their range, slightly inferior to that of a handgun is nothing compared to that of a rifle or even an assault rifle. They can be good options for close-range PvP skirmishes, but with the low endurance and high ammo consumption, their overall performance is poor.

Bows
Bows are some relatively exotic weapons in the World of the Living Dead. Not very intimidating or fast, but deadly in the hands of a good archer. As they don't rely on gunpowder to work, they are very silent compared to any firearms, which helps to keep from attracting undesired attention. Although rare and slow, bows are good weapons to stealthily hunt both the living and the dead. Note: After recent testing X-Bows are great for scouting once you have 100% Bow Mastery skill and 25% Emotionally Detached + the 5% Minus fear card the benefit of it is it can only fire off 2 rounds which means your bolts will take long time to deplete.
